My name is Jean and together with my wonderful girls, we are a family breeder of Pacific Parrotlets. We have two itty bitty birdies as pets. One of them, Olly, started it all. He belongs to my older daughter. We fell in love with him and subsequently acquired two pair of breeder parrotlets. Our first clutch produced one gorgeous baby. We fell in love with him and called him Baby B. Eventually we discovered that he couldn't leave our home. He became my younger daughter's little man, and renamed Hemi. My girls and I talked it over and decided we cannot name these gorgeous babies!! We name them, we keep them! We now identify each baby by band number.
Our babies are pulled at nine days, banded for identification and handfed until they wean. We abundance wean which basically means the baby decides when it is weaned. We do not sell unweaned babies. Every day, we cuddle, touch, love on and talk to our babies to ensure that they are well socialized when they go to their forever home.
Our babies are weaned to a variety of foods which include vegetables, fruits, pastas, beans and sprouts (which we sprout ourselves). We also put these items in a "mash" or "birdie bread". We have a high quality small hookbill seed available at all times.
We started this adventure as sort of a science project. We installed nightvision cameras on our nestboxes so that we can watch at any given time what's going on in the nestbox. This has allowed our family to learn so much about how these itty bitty birdies come to be.
